Mission
To provide for the licensing of motor vehicles regulation of passenger carriage services and transport of good by motor vehicles within the Western Province
Functions & Duties
Key Functions
- Issue of revenue licenses for motor vehicles within the province.
- Co-ordinating with Divisional Secretary offices and providing subsidiary services.
- Maintaining information relating to the issue of licenses.
- Promoting the function of issuing licenses to be more formal and efficient.
- Functions relating to the regulation of passenger carriage services and transport of goods within the province.
- General administration, financial control and establishment services of the Department
Other Duties of Motor Traffic Commissioner’s office
- Execution of Regulation according to Statues and Procedures for making Regulations.
- Issuance of Orders and Instructions under the Statute.
- Issuing of Motor Vehicle Revenue License within Colombo city limits.
- Provide Motor Vehicle License and other necessary documents to the Divisional Secretariat offices.
- Collection of income from revenue licenses and inspecting duties in Divisional Secretariat offices.
- Issuing fitness certificates for commercial vehicles and registering suitable garages by giving necessary instructions.
- Issuing Conductor License for Motor Coaches.
- Collection of income under the Motor Traffic Statute.
- Execute and implement suggestions of the Transport Instruction Committee.
